INU DŌ (犬の道)

MARCO BELLINI

An Italian wood sculptor and turner whose practice is grounded in a close study of timber, transformation and the expressive possibilities of surface.

Working with species including walnut, olive, beech and plane, he allows the inherent character of the wood to guide the form. Natural fractures, knots, voids and irregularities are not concealed, but incorporated into the work through processes that may include turning, carving, burning, oxidation and burial in earth.

His vessels occupy a space between sculpture and object. Raw yet highly controlled, they retain traces of growth, rupture and transformation, giving each work a distinct material presence and a sense of time embedded within its surface.
