A Japanese ceramic artist whose practice is shaped by a close attention to material, process and the passage of time. Drawn to aged objects and the traces accumulated on their surfaces, he approaches clay as a medium through which time can become visible.

Working through a layered and deliberate process, Aoki develops surfaces marked by subtle shifts in tone, texture and depth. His background in sculpture informs the strength and restraint of his forms, giving each piece a distinct physical presence without excess.
